All our teachers undergo a full DBS check, and are fully reference checked before gaining employment with Scales Music.

They are all highly qualified to Post Graduate Level and have much experience in the Private Teaching Sector.

  • Piano

    We teach Classical Piano from complete beginner to Diploma level and beyond. Some students choose to branch out into other disciplines such as jazz and contemporary music too, but all are taught within a Classical framework, enabling them to play to a high level incorporating strong technique, musicality and a good understanding of the instrument. We offer ABRSM exams from Prep Test to Diploma level and have an outstanding record of results, with many children gaining distinctions for every grade. As part of our lessons we also include sight reading and aural work not just for exam preparation purposes but because these are vital elements in building a good pianist and an intelligent musician.

  • Singing

    Many students start singing lessons after they have been playing the piano for a while (often enjoying the singing part of the aural work we do as part of our piano lessons). Other students come to us directly for singing lessons. We find singing improves musicality to an enormous degree, and has profoundly beneficial effects on childrens’ confidence, happiness, motivation and their ability to perform overall. We offer ABRSM exams in Singing (Classical and Musical Theatre) and have many children completing the full range of exams to Diploma level gaining a distinction in every grade. We cover all styles of singing from Baroque and Classical to Opera and Folk to contemporary West End musicals and show songs.

  • Guitar

    We teach Electric and Classical (Acoustic) Guitar from complete beginner to Diploma level and beyond. Many guitarists choose not to do exams but enjoy playing simply for pleasure, and many choose to do Jazz and chord based guitar (song accompaniment). We offer both ABRSM exams (Classical Guitar), Trinity Guildhall and Rock School (Electric and Acoustic Guitar) and have a 100% pass rate.

  • Theory

    We teach theory at all levels, and incorporate it into all our lessons as we firmly believe a good understanding of musical theory is essential for progression on any instrument. To move into the higher ABRSM grades (Grade 6 and beyond) students have to have passed Grade 5 Theory, so many students set this as a benchmark and aim to get to this level by the time they are nearing Grade 5 on their chosen instrument. We aim to make theory learning exciting and accessible, as well as enjoyable and satisfying!

  • Violin/Viola

    We teach Violin and Viola to both beginners and also advanced players. We can offer lessons to suit - working towards exams, concerts and auditions if desired, or just for fun.

  • Percussion

    Percussion - especially drums - has become incredibly popular in the recent years and we are now pleased to offer lessons.

More importantly, Antoinette quickly developed an honest and mutually respectful rapport with our daughter which has enabled them to explore new pieces together in order to work on them in a very mature, personal and supportive way and very successfully too. Our daughter’s singing has improved beyond all recognition and Antoinette has given her great confidence in her ability. Our daughter recently passed her ABRSM Grade 8 exam with a high distinction score of 144/150 and won the Richmond Festival Solo Voice performance as well as her School Festival Music Voice Prize and a place at Royal College of Music Junior Department which she now attends weekly. Antoinette is also a very organised teacher who has a very clearly set out timetable that she communicates well in advance. She never cancels her lessons and always runs on time. Antoinette is always in a good mood, always courteous and very reliable. She is the best teacher one could ever hope for.”
